Mr John Spillett

John worked in the plant early in the war when they built Bofors anti-aircraft guns. When Studebaker bought the plant one of

the supervisors he worked for previously got a job in the plant and he called five of them who worked for him during the war and he

went to work with him in May of 1948. John set up the engine line and later managed the Chassis department. Later on he supervised

the doll-up and final area. Then he went to run the final line. Later on he was moved to run the trim line and paint area. When

Studebaker went to a second shift, John was given the position of Plant superintendent running the afternoon shift. He was there

until the plant shut down on March 16th. 1966.  Over the years John stayed involved with Studebakers by being a member of both the

Hamilton  and Ontario Chapters of the SDC. He was one of first group to be honoured on the Studebaker Made in Canada Plaque and

was in attendance for the 2012 SMIC Celebrations held in Belleville.  Sadly, John passed away on October 13th, 2013 but will be remembered

as a true gentleman and for his strong enthusiasm towards Studebakers. Please read all about John's experiences at "Working in the Hamilton Plant"
